General Program Questions
The CPA exam tests the same competencies regardless of the state you are tested in, so you will be able to take the CPA in any state after your graduation. The key difference in licensing requirements between states is in the number of credit hours you must complete before you’re able to take the exam. In most other states, you must complete 150 credit hours college education before you can take the exam. In New York, however, you can take the exams after completing 120 total semester hours of college education.
Some states allow for provisional approval for applicants who want to take the exam while still completing the educational requirement. For more information on becoming a CPA, the AICPA has developed a helpful guide.
